The origin story
flppit started as a different name, a different plan, and a domain bought three years before a single line of code was written.
The founder spent a few years in New Zealand, a country where renting is second nature. Need a surfboard for the weekend? Borrow one. Camping gear for a road trip? Your neighbour has it. Nobody buys what they can share.
When he moved back to Abu Dhabi, he noticed the opposite. A city full of people who buy camping sets they use twice, cameras they touch once, and baby gear that sits in a closet after three months. In a country where 89% of residents are expats living temporarily, everyone owns things they don't need to own.
The idea was simple: build the rental marketplace the UAE was missing. But building it alone (without the tools available today) felt impossible. So the domain sat there. Waiting.
Three years later, with his cousin as co-founder and AI making a two-person team feel like ten, they finally built what they'd been thinking about since that first summer back from New Zealand.
It was called something else first. Then it was renamed. Then renamed again. Finally: flppit Because that's literally what happens. You flip it to someone. They flip it back. Nobody buys. Nobody wastes. Things just keep moving.
